Skin Types

skin-type

Every time someone goes into Sephora or Ulta the first thing we get asked is: what is your skin type? Due to the experience of working in the makeup industry, I realized many people get confused and don’t know what to say. However, with these easy steps, you will be able to figure out what your skin type is and how you can better choose makeup that works with your skin type. (Please remember skin type and skin conditions are two different things. Here I will be discussing skin types ONLY)

There are four different skin types. They are dry, normal, combination and oily. Each of these skin types need different skin routines and different products. Always remember what works for one skin type may not work for others. BTW my skin type is Oily and my skin condition is acne prone =(

  • Dry: People with dry skin usually have small pore sizes and tend to have dry patches around the face. Dry skin also may have flakiness and feel tight or itchy.
  • Normal: Very few people have normal skin. However, most people confuse normal with normal-combo skin due to the small amount of oil they produce on their skin. Normal skin is generally not oily and doesn’t feel tight.
  • Combination: Combination skin is usually oily in the t-zone. This means that you’re oily mainly on your forehead, chin, and nose area. Sometimes a small portion of the cheeks can be oily which forms the T in the T-zone. A lot of people tend to have combination skin.  Also, combination skin can have dry patches on the outer part of your cheeks.
  • Oily: Oily skin normally has larger pores due to the oil secretion and has a high shine due to the oil production. If you have oily skin then you will notice the oil being produced immediately after washing your face or a couple hours after. Oil will secrete and skin will have a slick feel to it.
